Dr Soumitra Ghosh is one of the most marvelous individuals I have ever come across. A multifaceted genius...stupendous as a psychiatrist...superlative as a creator. My tribute to a truly outstanding pathfinder. Aaj Bosonto (Spring) is his fourth compilation of poems. The compendium begins with a dedication to his daughter Palki and the scion Pluto. It has a Foreword by the towering Dr G Bandopadhyay Sir. A fitting introduction to a glittering supernova.
“Kicchu kicchu kotha” talks about the spoken amid the unspoken.
“Dekha Thik Hobei” ends on a note of optimism.
“Jonmodin” recounts change as “Cake” gives way to “Payesh” (porridge).
“Oboshad” delves into the layers of depression.
“Aaj Bosonto” is an expression of melancholy and fantasy.
“Aabar Aashbo” (“Will Return”) is a pledge to reappear.
“Ekaki” deals with melancholy.
“Epitaph” dissects the afterlife and the poet’s wishful legacy.
“Kanna-Haashi” investigates the entire spectrum of human emotions.
“Dusshopno” (“Nightmare”) describes the phenomenology of nocturnal insecurity.
“Punormilon Houk Mohamilon” is evocative.
“Beche Aachi” unpacks the phenomenon of existence.
The same theme is carried forward in “Beche Aachi” (“I Survive”).
“Maayer Sonali Ghori” (Mom’s Golden Watch) is a trip down memory lane.
“Rogir Naam-Unknown” blurs the human aspect of being a doctor.
“Shadeen Mon,” “Haariye Geche,” “Hariye Jaawa,” and “Bolte Paaro” all evoke contemplation and reflection.
“Ektai Jeebon,” “Emon Ki Hoe Na,” “Purbo-Poschim,” and “Ponchasher Pore” are deep realizations and reflections of the master-poet on reality and existence.
“Shonali Smriti,” “Tobu Aabar Jaabo,” “Matsya Upakhyan” (which I loved as a Sylethi because of the mention of Shidol—dry fish), “Satsagorer Paare,” “Sobjaanta Google” see Ghosh Sir stretch the limits of poetic imagination and transcend the reader to a realm of magical realism.
“Hoeni Boyosh,” “Bondhura Sob,” “Nesha,” “Hethe Khyete Byayam,” “School er Punormilon,” “COVID Test,” “Jonmodin,” and “Jeebon Amar” are deeply philosophical compositions.
It is toward the end that Ghosh Sir truly delights with his penchant for romance.
“Jai Cholo Poschime,” “Baarche Boyosh,” “Feere Dekha,” “Bondhu Aamar,” “Bondhu Dibos,” “Mobile Aatonko,” “Valentine’s Day,” “School e Elam,” and “Aabeger Dhakna” evoke a sense of reevaluation of contemporary realities.
“Sukher Khoje,” “Aparupa Bristi,” the emotive tribute “Sreechoroneshu Maa,” “Khola Aakash,” his observation on aging “Bardhokhyo” and the mellifluous “Chena-Ochena” elevate Dr Soumitra Ghosh Sir to the highest echelons of literary meteors and celestial comets.
A compilation of poems that could change your life!!!
